Crime statistics for Greenland has been published since 1979, initially by Statistics Denmark and later by Statistics Greenland. These publications of crime statistics contain all verdicts on criminal justice made since 1991, as well as the result of analysis of relapses into crime starting from the years 1996, 1998 and 2000. In the spring of 2001 a revision of the basis for data and method in the crime statistics was made. This revision resulted in the occurrence of a few possible discrepancies in the calculations.
The statistics on court verdicts is based on forms on verdicts, which had been filled out by individual police districts and sent to the Greenland Commissioner of Police. Every report contain information on mode of decision, date of criminal act and date of verdict, the nature of crime and outcome and action.
