POLICE

Greenland is an independent police district in the commonwealth. The police district is under the Danish Ministry of Justice.

The police district is divided into 16 units in the towns on the coast. The police in Tasiilaq covers both Tasiilaq and Illoqqortoormiut.

The Chief of Police, in Nuuk, is responsible for the administration and prosecution in all police units in Greenland and administers the institutions for convicts.

The police district is connected to the central police records, including the criminal register, the registers of holders of passports and driver's licenses and the Schengen Information System (SIS). Moreover, the police act as the bailiff authority.
